Software programs
Everyone can benefit from using legal software, even folks who will employ an attorney. Think of the hourly fees you’ll save if you walk into your lawyer’s office with a rough draft of your preferences already printed out. With a little tweaking and a lot of signing, you’ll end up with a valid, lawyer-approved will for a fraction of retail.

Handwritten wills, called holographic wills, have been judged valid under some pretty outrageous circumstances. One was written on the bottom of a chest of drawers — it was sawed out and admitted to probate in L.A. county in 1950. Another was written on a handbag in 1953.
